This post is mostly for myself: I want to document my year in cycling. As such, you, the reader, will probably be bored stiff. Consider yourself warned. Now’s your chance to stop reading and go somewhere more interesting.
In this, the year 2009, I:
- Cycled 7004 miles
- Bought my first road bike (have I mentioned how much I love it?)
- Participated in my first road race
- Commuted 4,079 miles by bicycle, saving about 150 gallons of gas and 3,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (less, of course, the amount of carbon dioxide exhaled by my lungs and the environmental impact of my tubes, tires, lube, and all other bicycle maintenance)
- Rode through a swarm of bats
- Got a great new wheel to replace my crappy rear wheel which broke 2 spokes within a month of each other. Thanks, Universal Cycles! I couldn’t be happier with your handbuild wheel.
- Fell off my bike at a red light because I couldn’t get my foot out of the pedal fast enough
- Rode the Winter Stagecoach Century, the Alpine Challenge, and the San Diego Century, and realized that while the SAG support is great, I’d rather ride unsupported than participate in formal events.
- Faced my fear of heights and lost.
