cheese is equal to cheese

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

After a little deliberation about yesterday’s post, I have come to the conclusion that I owe Stan Bush an apology.

The original version of “The Touch” was a very cheesy arena rock song that my 13-year-old self gobbled up like a big ol’ plate of arena rock cheese.

The remake into Sam’s Theme is a very cheesy emo/rap/rock song that I’m sure, if I were 13 years old, I would gobble up like a big ol’ plate of emo/rap/rock cheese.

So actually, what Stan Bush has done is quite brilliant. He has demonstrated an ability to write catchy songs that are current with popular culture.

Mr. Bush, I am sorry. And thank you very much for creating such wonderful memories of my teen years.

Michael Bay must be stopped.

While Transformers: The Movie had its flaws, it had a rockin’ 80s soundtrack, and I played the hell out of it when I was a kid. Witness this gem:

“The Touch” by Stan Bush

Now look what they’ve gone and done: The Touch: Sam’s Theme

This Youtube comment pretty much sums everything:

friday youtubery: epo te quiero

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Please accept my apologies for this blog devolving into a series of youtube videos.

But I just have to post this. I found it courtesy of the Bike Snob (here’s the post), and I’m only 9 months late to the party with this one. This music video is a response to the Spanish cyclists who were caught and booted from the 2008 Tour de France. Riccardo Rico, while Italian, rode for a Spanish team so I guess we can lump him in there as well.

ANYWAY, the song is really catchy, and for whatever reason I actually like it a lot. It’s been bopping along in my head the last few days during my bike commutes, which is far better than some of the other tripe that gets stuck in my head’s rotation.

If you’re interested in a rough translation to English, go here*.

ANYWAY (really this time) here’s the vid:

Hi, dom Pedro
Si ?
What is your secret for being so fast ?
You would really like to know, wouldn’t you ?
It is an “especial” potion.
Let me tell you about it ….

1,2,3
EPO te quiero (EPO I love you)
Thanks to you , I’ll be “numero uno” (number 1)
EPO te quiero
Thanks to you, I’ll have the most beautiful of the jerseys.

On the roads of France,
I take advantage of the beautiful day.
I musn’t make too much effort
If I want to win the Tour.
I ride along on my bicycle
Without effort or complexity.
Far ahead of the peloton,
I’m humming this song.

EPO te quiero
Thanks to you , I’ll be “numero uno”
EPO te quiero
Thanks to you, I’m going faster than ? (a tornado or Don Lado).

When I have a little pump strike (I feel drained)
On my bike
I stop beside a field
Of poppies
So I extract from my flask
EPO
An good old medicine

And when comes the end of the stage,
I’m hailed as a hero.
Bravo, Bravo
The champagne, I don’t give a damn about it.
I prefer my EPO.

EPO te quiero
Thanks to you , I’ll be “numero uno”
EPO te quiero
Thanks to you, I’ll have the most beautiful of the jerseys.

Your attention ! Everyone into the saddles!
Each morning, with EPO, get a leg up.
A product of ours the whole world envies.
For you and your bicycle, EPO is what you need.
Thanks to you my EPO.

EPO te quiero
Thanks to you , I’ll be “numero uno”
EPO te quiero
Thanks to you, I’ll have the most beautiful of the jerseys.

I’ll be cuter than Laurent Fignon,
Stronger than Poulidor
And far crazier than Virenque,
And more handsome than Bernard Hinault.
Thanks to you, my EPO.

My PP, my PO, my PP, my EPO,
My PP, my PO, my PP, my EPO,

EPOooooooooooo

I thought Friday was done, but then I stumbled upon this:

Let’s just pick the mother of all funk chords, let’s pick a ninth chord

The youtube mash-up has blossomed into art, and I think I like it.

This one’s another copout, and it’s not actually youtube, and there’s probably a bunch of other caveats* I should make but if your familiarity with current internet memes is lacking** and you haven’t heard the ruckus about Sita Sings the Blues, then I hereby pass on to you the “greatest breakup story ever told:”

Sita Sings the Blues

Click on the Watch It link for viewing options. I downloaded the 4 GB ultra-spanky high-def version and it was worth the wait.

* One more caveat, it’s like an hour and 20 minutes or so but it’s really really really worth the investment of your time.

** A polite way to say you’ve been living under a rock

Today’s youtubery is kind of a copout. It’s just a compilation of people crashing, and possibly becoming injured as a result. The sound is loud and annoying and I thought the clip funny with the sound muted but totally obnoxious with sound on. Apparently the editor has a bunch of other crash compilations if this is your cup of tea in which your boat floats.

EDIT: Ok I have a second, and slightly better video: A killer goose, on the loose, goosing a doggy.

youtube video link: Man and dog attacked by goose

Apparently there is a site for mashing up youtube videos. Click here to view the goose attack with a lovely acoustic guitar soundtrack.

I remember being bitten by a mean ol’ big white goose at Heather Farm (known as “Heather Farms” to us local yokels, don’t ask me why) when I was young. I was quite surprised at how painful a goose bite is.
